The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3

THE REVELATION TO  ST. JOHN

CHAPTER

3

¹ "And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: " I know your works; you have a name of being alive, but you are dead.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 1)

Oh God my Father we can be truly alive physically, however on the other hand we can be living a spiritual death. I pray oh God my Father, that You help me use my physical life as a means of continuing to live and fulfill my spiritual life in You my God and Father and not according to the ways of the world Amen.

² Wake up and strengthen what remains and is on the point of death, for I have not found your works perfect in the sight of my God.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 2)

Oh God my beloved Father I thank You for giving me the chance to wake up and start living instead of remaining in a state of spiritual death. I pray that You continue to support me Amen.

³ Remember then what you received and heard; obey it; and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 3)

Amen  oh God my Father, I will always remember Your Word and my promise to obey it. I thank You for reminding me my God and Father Amen.

⁴ Yet you have still a few persons in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes; they will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 4)

Oh God my beloved Father, it is of a great consolation that there are still people who will walk with You when the time comes, I pray that I am also found worthy of being among that number Amen.

⁵ If you conquer, you will be clothed like them in white robes, and I will not blot your name out of the book of life; I will confess your name before my Father and before his angels. ⁶ Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verses 5 to 6)

Oh God my beloved Father, I pray for the power to conquer for I am still a weak person prone to sin, I pray to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and live accordingly Amen.

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of the holy one, the true one,  who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens: ⁸ " I know your works. Look I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verses 7 to 8)

Oh God my beloved Father, You set before me many opportunities to prove or test my faith and love for You. Even though You know my weaknesses and the chances of my either winning or failing the test, You still leave the door open, You still give me the opportunity and for this I greatly thank You my God and Father Amen.

⁹ I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but are lying-I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and they will learn that I have loved you.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 9)

Oh God my beloved Father, I pray that those who really and truly believe in You come and kneel before You in a spirit of faith and adoration Amen. I also pray that by means of my behaviour people will realize that I believe in You and try to live according to Your ways. Amen.

¹⁰ Because you have kept my word of patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 10)

Oh God, my beloved Father I feel that the hour of trial is already on us, for every minute of our lives we are tested for our righteousness. I pray that with Your grace I will pass such tests, for by my own strength as a human I am still weak. Every day I struggle with my self in order to live according to Your ways and not mine Amen.

¹¹ I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. ¹² If you conquer, I will make you a pillar in the temple of my God; you will never go out of it. I will write on you the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem that comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verses 11 to 12)

Oh God my Father I pray that You keep me whole both in body and in spirit. I pray that You help me overcome my weaknesses so that I can be found strong Amen. I pray that You also write on my soul Your name my God and Father Amen.

¹³ Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 13)

Oh God my Father I pray for finer ears and an open heart, along with an intelligent mind and faith of steel, so that I can always discern Your ways and understand what Your Holy Spirit is trying to tell me every day of my life Amen.

¹⁴  "And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the origin of God's creation:

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 14)

Oh God my Father, the messages that You passed on in relation to the Church of Laodicea or Asia Minor as know today can also be found valid for our times for You are still our Amen and we are still Your witnesses. Amen.

¹⁵ "I know your works, you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot. ¹⁶ So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verses 15 to 16)

Oh God my beloved Father how I wish that as humans we would be more decided in our relationship with You.  I pray that I be more secure in my faith and not be lukewarm. I firmly believe in You, however at times I do not experience Your presence. I pray that I experience You everywhere I go and am Amen.

¹⁷For you say, 'I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing." You do not realize that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 17)

Oh God my blessed Father, I pray on behalf of those of us, who may be rich according to the standards of the world, but on the other hand are very poor in spirit and are foreign to Your ways. I pray for those who think that the world revolves around them and that they are the God of their own world and that they are so powerful that they can control and manipulate others Amen.

¹⁸ Therefore I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich; and white robes to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nakedness from being seen; and salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verse 18)

Oh God my Father, it seems that You are asking us to be baptized again not in water but in the Holy Spirit, during which You anoint our eyes with Your vision so that we can have a new beginning. By means of the white dress that is placed on the child You are asking us to refrain from all that stains our soul, such as sin pornography among other vices.

¹⁹  I reprove and discipline those whom I love. Be earnest, therefore and repent. ²⁰ Listen I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verses 19 to 20)

Oh God my Father You are the perfect example of a loving Father. A loving Father does not always approve the requests of his children. There are certain situations when Your answer is No. As humans we may consider such moments of chastisement in a negative sense, however You are able to see ahead of time and therefore You are more aware of both the positive and the negative aspects of what we are praying for or about. Amen, I pray that Your will be done in all circumstances of my life, in sickness and in health in good times and even not so good times Amen.

²¹ To the one who conquers I will give a place with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. ²² Let anyone who has an ear listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.

(The Revelation to St. John Chapter 3 verses 21 to 22)

Oh God my Father, I thank You for giving this invitation to all of us especially to those of us who surrender their total will to You. This is my wish my God and Father. Amen.

I would like to end this meditation and prayer on the third chapter of the book of Revelations to St.John with the following prayer:-

I thank You my God and Father for not always saying 'yes' to my prayers because You see the big picture of my life unlike myself. I welcome Your chastisement as being Your will unfolding in the course of my life. I surrender myself to You and Your will Amen
